Instruction to Author

AIMS & SCOPE: The word tribology derives from the Greek tribos, meaning friction and logos, meaning law. Tribology is the “science and technology of interacting surfaces in relative motion”. It includes the research and application of principles of friction, wear and lubrication. Recently, micro/nanotribology had been gaining ground. Frictional interactions in microcomponents are becoming increasingly important for the development of new products in mechanics, chemistry, electronics, life sciences, sensors and by extension for all modern technology.

The Journal of Tribology Research (JTR) is a multidisciplinary journal will publish refereed high quality articles with a special emphasis on the research and development in recent advances in friction, wear, lubrication, biotribology and micro/nanotribology. JTR fosters information exchange and discussion on all aspects of tribology for modern industry. The topics include, but are not limited to:
· Abrasion and erosion
· Advanced lubrication and lubricants
· Biotribology
· Coatings for wear resistance or low friction
· Environmental tribology and energy conservation
· Experimental methods and standardisation of tribological tests
· Hydrodynamic, elasto-hydrodynamic and boundary lubrication
· Micro/nano hardness of surfaces including biomaterials
· Micro/nanotribology and applications
· Modeling and simulation in tribology
· Surface topography and contact mechanics
· Tribochemistry
· Tribology and renewed energies
· Tribology in manufacturing processes
· Tribology of information storage
· Wear and friction of metals, plastics, ceramics, composites and biomaterials
· Wear mapping and materials selection in tribology
The JTR publishes full research articles, review articles, technical notes and cases studies. Proposals for special issues on selected topics reflecting recent tribology advances or on select articles of the conferences can be submitted directly to the Editor in Chief.

Author guidelines
1. Articles should be in English. The mode of presentation should be in third person.
2. All submitted manuscripts must be original work that is not under submission at another journal or under consideration for publication in another form. The copyright of the articles accepted for publication becomes the property of journal and reproduction of any part of the paper elsewhere is not allowed without the permission of the publisher. Contributors are required to sign a declaration to this effect while submitting their articles (se the copyright transfer of the publisher)
3. The Editors-in-chief are not responsible for damage or loss of articles submitted. Neither the Editors-in-chief can be accept responsibility for opinions expressed in the journal.
4. Submissions should be sent only electronically or by e-mail directly to the Editors-in-chief, Prof. J. Paulo Davim pdavim@ua.pt or Prof. G. Petropoulos gpetrop@mie.uth.gr All submitted manuscripts are review by at least two expertises.
5. All manuscripts should be prepared in MS Word format and pdf – file with 3MB max - in Times Roman (12 pt). Use single column, double spacing with wide margins on A4 article. No manuscript should ordinarily exceed 25 typed pages, including figures and tables included in the text. All pages should be numbered consecutively.
6. Authors should provide full mailing address(es), including e-mail. The corresponding author should be clearly indicated, in a footnote appearing on the first page of the article.
7. An abstract of not more than 200 words should appear in the first page of the manuscript. It should be self-contained and understandable by the general reader outside the context of the article. It should be free from formulae, acronyms and references. The abstract should be followed by a list of up to 5 keywords.
8. All sections and subsections of the article should be numbered in Arabic numerals.
9. All equations (expect for very short ones) should be displayed on a separate line. Equations which are cited in the main text should be numbered consecutively on the right margin, using Arabic numerals in parentheses.
10. References should be listed alphabetically by author at the end of the article and referred to in the body of the text by Name (year)-Harvard system- for example, Smith (2008) or (Smith, 2008). The references’ list should be prepared according to the following example: Smith, J. (2008), “Tribology…”, Journal of Tribology Research, 20(2), 100-115.
